Boxing: Mikaela Laurén will face Michaela Kotaskova in a match for the WBF championship belt – could become the oldest world champion of all time

SVT Sport can reveal that on November 30 Laurén will face the Austrian Michaela Kotaskova in a match for the WBF world champion belt in welterweight.

In the player above, Laurén talks about why she aimed for a comeback – and about the importance of her daughter.

Laurén has previously held championship belts in several other organizations, including the WBC, which is usually considered the most prestigious title.

– If you have already won seven different WC titles, then you have to find something else to aim for. So this was a fun and slightly different challenge, says Laurén, who made a comeback in February after a four-year boxing retirement.

“She’s going to get a shock”

Lauren’s opponent Kotaskova was born in the Czech Republic but has lived in Austria for many years. The 33-year-old has eight wins in ten professional matches and will therefore defend the belt at home, but Laurén is positive about his chances.

– I feel that she has not met anyone of my caliber, so hopefully she will get a shock, says Laurén.

What would it mean to you to win?

– It would mean an incredible amount if I had the chance to win this match, and show that age is just a number – that as long as you enjoy it, train hard, have a dream and follow it, it is possible to fulfill it .

Laurén said after the draw in October that her career could be over, but now she hopes there will be another match after this one.

– I hope this will not be the last match. I hope I can take the belt home to Sweden and then defend it on Swedish soil, she says.

How long do you see yourself boxing?

– I probably don’t want to be 55 and shoot around in the ring, but if I win this match and get the opportunity to defend the title, I hope in any case to be able to say that I am a 50-year-old who takes a match in the boxing ring.

– That would be cool.
