When Mikaela Laurén gets to see the old TV pictures of herself, she laughs.
She has played the “Angry game” and sprayed mosquito spray on Klara Svensson, poured water over Ivana Habazin and kissed Cecilia Braekhus.
There have been many psykers against the opponents.
– I get drunk with laughter when I see it. I have not been afraid of getting attention. But it was a necessary evil to get matches and sponsors. Today I won’t be as wild, but it will be a kinder style, she says ahead of this weekend’s comeback.
“Could be her mother”
On Saturday evening, the now 48-year-old ex-world champion makes a comeback at a gala in Copenhagen. It has been over four years since she ended her career to become a mother. Daughter Nikita is almost three years old.
The opponent is 28-year-old Romanian Ioana Fecioru. She has only gone seven pro matches, compared to Laurén’s 38, but was boxed for an EC title last year.
– She is 20 years younger than me so I could be her mother. She’s young and hungry and it feels fun, I don’t want to meet anyone but want to feel the shape and see if I’m up to it. I hope she has some respect for the old aunt, says the Swede.
The goal: Become the oldest world champion
The goal of the comeback? To win a WC title and thus become the oldest world champion of all time on the women’s side.
What time frame have you set?
– Within a year, I hope to have reached there. I want to get in and do this quickly and decisively and don’t intend to hold out for several more years. I hope to go one or two games and then get a chance at the WC title.
And if you lose this weekend, then it’s thanks and bye?
– Yes, if I were to lose, I would probably have to admit that it is time to put the gloves on the shelf. And of course I won’t be foolhardy. If I feel that I am being overtaken by a younger and stronger opponent, I will throw in the towel. My husband and my daughter are more important to me than winning.
