Boxing: After the hate storm: Boxer Imane Khelif ready for Olympic final

The 25-year-old Algerian Khelif, who, among other things, has a World Cup silver from 2022 on his track record, has received a lot of hate towards him in recent days – especially on social media.

The reason is that she (just like the Taiwanese Lin Yu-ting) was excluded in the middle of last year’s boxing World Cup because she – according to the international boxing organization IBA’s Russian president Umar Kremlev, failed a gender test and has both an X and a Y -chromosome.

Before the Olympics, which the IOC approved for both boxers to compete in, it received a lot of attention, and it has been widely spread around the world, whereupon Khelif had to endure a lot of hate.

But in the boxing ring, it has not been possible to see that Khelif has gone through a challenging time. Now she has made it all the way to the final in the 66-kg class, as she won the semi-final against Janjaem Suwannapheng this evening.

Khelif was the more active and offensive of the two boxers, and after the three rounds were completed, the referee raised Khelif’s arm in the air – and Khelif, along with the many Algerians in the stands, could celebrate a final place.

In Friday’s final, she faces the Chinese Liu Yang.
