A multi-morbid patient underwent a stoma operation at Gävle Hospital. But the intestinal parts were connected incorrectly. Now Region Gävleborg reports itself to the Inspectorate for Care and Care (Ivo), reports SVT Nyheter Gävleborg.
The stool from the small intestine was connected to the wrong part of the intestine. It was discovered when the patient got an infection and a new stomach operation had to be carried out.
After the second operation, several complications arose and the patient died.
The cause of death was found to be heart failure. According to the hospital report, there was nothing abnormal in the stomach that could have caused the death.
