Bouygues Telecom creates a surprise by launching the first Internet

Bouygues Telecom creates a surprise by launching the first Internet box using fixed 5G for individuals in France. With the key, a speed worthy of fiber and Wi-Fi 6 for subscribers located in covered areas.

For fixed broadband Internet connection, we already know ADSL, optical fiber and satellite, the most widely used technologies in France and around the world. And, in some cases, when it is difficult to run cables, when the NRA – the subscriber connection node – is too far away to offer a correct speed or, quite simply, in the event of a breakdown on the wired network, we can fall back on a mobile connection via 4G. But now a new solution is available: fixed 5G. And it is Bouygues Telecom which plays the pioneers in the field in France by offering a very high speed Internet box via the mobile network for sedentary use. The operator is not the first to set up this kind of device, since SFR is already doing it. But only for professionals and companies. While Bouygues Telecom’s fixed 5G offer is accessible to the general public. And that’s what makes it interesting.

Bouygues Telecom 5G box: 1.1 Gbit/s for 40 euros per month

In practice, Bouygues’ fixed 5G offer is based on a special box – compatible with 5G technology, of course. Manufactured by the equipment manufacturer TCL, it is both elegant and compact since it takes the form of a black cylindrical approximately 20 cm in height and 12 ccm in diameter. Once equipped with a 5G Sim card, it ensures an asymmetric Internet connection could reach 1.1 Gbps down (download) – just as good as fiber! – and only 58 Mbit/s uplink (upload). Equipped with two Ethernet sockets and a Wi-Fi 6 module, it can connect up to a maximum of 240 devices (computers, telephones, tablets, TV, connected objects, etc.), which is particularly comfortable. In addition, Bouygues promises easy installation, with automatic configuration as soon as it is connected to an electrical outlet.

Above all, this new box is offered at a very reasonable price, based on a non-binding subscription at 40 euros per month – 39.99 euros to be precise… –, with 19 euros in provision costs – amount to be paid for a single time. Above all, the operator does not impose any limit on the volume of data, unlike what happens on certain fixed 4G formulas, intended for temporary troubleshooting. It can therefore be used as a traditional Internet connection, without depriving yourself – especially for audio and video streaming –, especially since the offer also includes the b.TV application, which gives access to 70 TV channels online. live and 25 replays.

Be careful though: this offer is not accessible to everyone. To subscribe to it, you must first not be able to access optical fiber or ADSL with the correct speed. But also be located in an area covered by Bouygues 5G, which uses the 3.5 GHz band. Finally, it should be noted that this new formula is exclusively intended for fixed use, at the address indicated when subscribing. there is therefore no question of taking advantage of it in mobile use, when traveling during the holidays for example. To answer all questions relating to this new offer, Bouygues Telecom has set up a dedicated web page in the form of FAQs (frequently asked questions), entitled All about the Bouygues Telecom 5G box. An excellent initiative to know all the practical aspects related to this new kind of offer.
