Elsa Gabriela Soares, born in Cape Verde, arrived in France at the age of six. She grew up in Paris where she discovered wax, its colors and patterns. For financial reasons she cannot finish her fashion design studies but her sewing machine is never far away. She works in the fashion sector but on the sales side.
During confinement, she makes masks, and finds that after thirty years of sewing break, she has not lost her touch. Elsa Gabriela Soares then launches her brand, in 2020. Headband, kit, pouch, bag, cushion, she makes everything herself in a single model but with different combinations of materials.
His assemblies are very intuitive. Elsa Gabriela Soares highlights wax and velvet, materials that enhance each other.
“I only started with the Wax. Afterwards I found that it was too much, that a key was missing. The base is the wax, then I associate the wax with another material. It’s very difficult. What is difficult is the visual rendering, not the material. With velvet, even if some people find it an ordinary material, associating it with wax makes it more beautiful. Thanks to the wax, the velvet appears differently and associating them, it highlights them both. “
The designer of Boutique Gabriela has her own method of selecting fabrics: the fabric speaks to her. A creative and emotional approach.
“ When I go to the store to choose the fabrics, as long as I don’t have the fabric that speaks to me, I will leave empty-handed. I don’t take a fabric just to buy. I have so much love to give in my creations. Every time I create an article it sticks in my head and I never forget it. I try to take fabric that I haven’t seen elsewhere. My products are unique creations: you have a bag, you are the only one to have it. I like to wear things that I don’t see anywhere else, or on other people, I know it’s impossible, but having a bag that won’t be seen anywhere, I think that makes women happy. »
