Both Jews and Muslims in Stockholm testify to increased hatred

At the end of last week, the mosque on Södermalm was hit by scrawled doors. It is just one of several threats and hate crimes that have affected Muslims and Jews in the past month.

– We have cameras that show that it is a masked person who on two occasions shortly after each other scribbled down the doors, says Mahmoud Khalid who is the director and imam of the Södermalm Mosque.

Want to see continued good cooperation between Sweden’s Jews and Muslims

At the same time, Jews in Sweden testify to a growing threat and that they are wary of wearing kippahs and the Star of David in public. A recommendation that, among others, the Jewish congregation in Gothenburg already issued in mid-October.

Both Aron Verständig, chairman of the Jewish Central Council, and imam Mahmoud Khalid express how they do not want the conflict to be imported to Sweden, but want to see continued good cooperation between Sweden’s Muslims and Jews.

In the video, you can hear them talk about the hatred and threats in the wake of the war between Israel and Hamas and the developments in the Gaza Strip.
