Boston and Ullmark won the Winter Classic

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The hyped outdoor Winter Classic ice hockey match took place on Monday evening. At Fenway Park, the home arena of the baseball team Boston Red Sox, the rivals Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins met – and it was, as many had anticipated, a tough and physical match.

After a scoreless first period, things narrowed considerably in the second.

The Penguins took the lead just over eight minutes in when Kasperi Kapanen scored the lead goal.

Then the fun was over for the Penguins who had, before the game, four straight losses.

Because in the third period, Boston and Jake DeBrusk came alive. First came the equalizer through Debrusk and with two minutes left in the match, the 26-year-old became a two-goal scorer when he scored 2–1.

Pittsburgh pushed for an equalizing goal, but Boston, with Swedish goalkeeper Linus Ullmark playing great with several sharp saves, resisted and won the rival meeting 2–1.
