Swedish hockey legend Börje Salming received the crowd’s applause last night in Toronto, where he played 16 seasons for the city’s NHL team Maple Leafs in the 70s and 80s. ALS sufferer Salming received a standing ovation and was visibly moved as he was praised before the game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
71-year-old Salming was diagnosed with ALS, a disease that causes the body’s muscles to waste, earlier this year and his health has rapidly deteriorated.
