British Prime Minister Boris Johnson the separation has no effect on the security guarantees that Finland receives from Britain, says the Minister of Defense Antti Kaikkonen (middle).

– The mutual commitments between Finland and Britain are not dependent on individuals, but are between countries, and to the extent that such personnel changes, which happen every now and then in politics, do not affect the relations or commitment between the countries, Kaikkonen tells .

Finland’s NATO membership application is also not affected by Britain’s internal political turmoil. Yesterday, Wednesday, Britain already had time to ratify Finland’s membership application.

– In Britain, there is strong support across party lines for this cooperation with Finland, and very strong and clear support for, say, our NATO membership, says Kaikkonen.

Britain’s role in solving the Ukraine crisis will remain strong

During the spring, the British have played a significant role in European security policy, and according to Kaikkonen, this will not change even if Johnson leaves.

– I don’t think it will have any major effects on this. I assume that Britain’s foreign and security policy will continue in roughly the same way as until now.

Britain’s role in solving the situation in Ukraine, for example, will remain strong in the future as well, Kaikkonen estimates.
