We contacted the chairman of the municipal board and 1st vice-chairman in the 30 municipalities that, according to the Agency for Growth, had the most guest nights per inhabitant during the latest measurable twelve-month period, May 2023-April 2024.
The 30 municipalities in order of rank: Borgholm, Malung-Sälen, Arjeplog, Strömstad, Älvdalen, Härjedalen, Sotenäs, Åre, Jokkmokk, Tanum, Kiruna, Storuman, Leksand, Sigtuna, Mörbylånga, Båstad, Rättvik, Berg, Sorsele, Orsa, Falkenberg, Vimmerby, Vilhelmina, Dorotea, Tingsryd, Vadstena, Torsby, Lysekil, Årjäng and Gotland.
Borgholm had 100.5 guest nights per resident, while Gotland had 15.9 guest nights per resident.
Of the 30 municipalities, we have received answers from politicians in 22 municipalities. The question we asked was: “Do you want tourist tax to be allowed in your municipality?”. In eleven of the municipalities, one or both politicians answer yes to the question (a total of twelve yes answers). In eight of the municipalities, one or both politicians answer no (a total of nine no answers). Five politicians have not been able to answer either yes or no.
It is already known that Gotland’s regional chairman is positive about the tourist tax, which gives another yes answer that was not included above.
Eleven of those who answered positively belong to S, and one to C. Of those who answered negatively, four belong to M, two to C, one to S, one to KD and one to the Lysekils party.
