Borg was pitted in the first round against Serbian Laslo Djere, ranked 35th in the world.
The 20-year-old Swede, 359 in the world ranking, accounted for several careless balls and had difficulty getting up to level. Borg lost the first set 3–6.
Nor did it get better in others where there was a loss as well. Laslo Djere won the set 6–3 and the match 2–0 and is through to the second round.
Before the match started, a minute’s silence was held to honor the Swedish victims of the suspected terrorist act in Brussels yesterday.
Despite Leo Borg’s loss, there are other Swedish representatives still in the tournament which is played in the Royal Tennis Hall. Elias Ymer defeated 49-ranked Spaniard Roberto Bautista 2-0 in sets (6-4, 6-4) on Monday evening. Next, Ymer is pitted against 18-year-old Dino Prizmic.
For Karl Friberg, it ended in the first round after losing 0–2 in a set against Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (4–6, 2–6).
