The now convicted man was friends with the 13-year-old’s mother, and the girl called him her extra dad. But last summer, when the girl spent a lot of time at the man’s house, she was raped by him on several occasions. During the spring of this year, the girl told what she was exposed to and the man could be brought to justice.
Now he is being sentenced in the Jönköping district court for eight cases of rape against children. In addition to the prison sentence, he must pay SEK 440,000 in damages to the girl.
Says he was mentally unwell
The man has admitted and has said in police questioning that he was mentally ill at the time of the abuse. But the district court does not consider that the man’s poor mental state had any impact on his ability to control his behavior.
For children who have been victims of a crime, the court process can be difficult and frightening. In the clip below, Ola Depui at the Jönköping District Court talks about how they adapt for the best interests of the children.
