Bomb plans in Nyköping stopped – against the mother of a criminal

The police are believed to have stopped murder plans with a bomb against a woman in Nyköping, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna.
Her son is on a list of targets in an ongoing conflict in the city – and yesterday was the victim of an explosion.
We strongly want to state that we have prevented a serious crime from taking place, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver at the police.

The police were alerted shortly after 02:00 this morning to an apartment building in Nyköping.

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, a masked man had broken into the stairwell. However, the perpetrator chose, for unknown reasons, to suddenly leave the address and flee.

– The masked person disappeared in a car. We found that car at 03:15 with a total of two people in it, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver, police spokesperson.

Boy and young man arrested with bomb

In the vehicle, the police found a sharp bomb, according to information to TV4 Nyheterna.

– We have a good idea of what kind of object it is, but we will not go into more details than that because a preliminary investigation is underway. The object has been disarmed by the bomb shelter, says Angelica Israelsson Silfver.

Both people in the car, a man in his 20s and a boy in his 15s, were arrested on suspicion of preparation for murder and preparation for public destruction. According to the police’s suspicions, the crime plans would take place at the address where the masked man was previously seen.

– The 15-year-old boy is still suspected of crime, but because of his young age there were no grounds for arrest, said the prosecutor, says Silfver.

According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, a mother of a 33-year-old gang criminal lives in the stairwell where the masked man was. The bomb plans are therefore believed to be aimed at her.

The police: Devastating consequences

The police do not want to comment on the information, but say they see the night’s arrest as a foiled bombing.

– This is a crime that could have had devastating consequences for both people and property, but we have prevented that now, even before it happened. We are happy about that, says Silfver.

The same 33-year-old man, the woman’s son, is believed to have been the target late on Sunday evening when a powerful explosion occurred at a villa in Brandlärr in Nyköping.

TV4 Nyheterna was able to tell yesterday that the man is on the police’s list of targets for violent crimes. Both last night’s averted crime and Sunday’s house bombing are connected to an ongoing local conflict in Nyköping where additional people on the same list have been subjected to serious crimes.

The police have, through reinforcements, joined forces to try to break the spiral of violence – which it is now feared will escalate after serious murder plans against a mother of one of those involved in the conflict.
