(Finance) – In the last six months, the Financial Police and customs officials have intercepted over 180 passengers toBologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport who attempted the currency movementomitting the declaration, for a total amount equal to 2.8 million euros.

Current legislation establishes the obligation to declare to customs sums equal to or greater than 10,000 euros for transfers entering or leaving the national territory.

The majority of violators have chosen to immediately extinguish the violation by paying the expected fine, taking advantage of the oblation institution. However, for repeat offender passengers – already sanctioned to a reduced extent in the last five years – the administrative seizure of part of the currency transported.

Among the most significant cases is that of a Moroccan citizen resident in Italy, coming from Casablanca, stopped with over 50,000 euros in cash not declared. In this case, the legislation provides for the seizure of 50% of the sum exceeding the permitted limit, equal to over 20,000 euros.

“These episodes highlight how these violations, apparently of an administrative nature, may conceal more serious phenomena, including money laundering and financing of illicit activitiesconfirming the importance of rigorous and continuous control activity”, we read in a note from the Fiamme Gialle.
