The 22-year-old Bol had a particularly successful year. She won silver at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in the 400 meters, followed by silver in the 400 meters hurdles at the World Outdoor Championships in Eugene. Then she delivered a unique performance at the European Championships in Munich with gold in both the 400 meters flat and the 400 meters hurdles. She won the 400 meters in a Dutch record of 49.44 seconds. She also took gold with the relay team in the 4×400 meters. Bol ended the year with the overall victory in the Diamond League over 400 hurdles.
