Chatham-Kent Public Health has received satisfactory results from the samples taken on Oct. 1 and 2, according to a media release issued late Wednesday afternoon.

Based on sufficient water pressures, adequate chlorine levels, and water free of bacterial contamination, acting medical officer of health Shanker Nesathurai rescinded the advisory.

It had been in place since a fire caused damage to the Wheatley water treatment plant on Sept. 13.

The Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission continues to work to ensure water is available for everyone and asks that water conservation efforts continue, the release said.

This includes avoiding water consumption activities such as lawn watering, car washing, filling of hot tubs, and all other non-essential uses of the water supply.

“We thank everyone for their patience and resilience as we navigate this difficult situation,” Tim Sunderland, PUC general manager, said in the release. “We look forward to continuing to move ahead with repairs to the Wheatley water treatment plant.”

As repairs continue at the plant, the municipality and PUC will continue to update the Let’s Talk page, located at www.chatham-kent.ca/waterstatus, with information on the progress.
