It will take several more days before the residents of Nyköping and Oxelösund can stop boiling the tap water, according to Nyköping municipality. First, several approved test answers are required.
Samples have been taken of the tap water in Nyköping and Oxelösund because the large water leak this week may have polluted the water. The first test results will be analyzed on Sunday afternoon, but more test results are needed, according to Nyköping Municipality.
– We talk about Thursday at the earliest if everything goes as it should. Until then, you can continue to boil the cooking and drinking water, says Annika Hedberg at Nyköping Municipality.
It takes 48 hours to get a test result from an analysis.
“In order for us to be able to remove the cooking recommendations, we need to have approved the results from the tests two days in a row,” says Madeleine Jansson, VA manager in Nyköping municipality, on the municipality’s website.
The analysis takes place in a laboratory in accordance with EU established directives.
The water supply was stable on Sunday morning and all households have water, the municipality states.
The main water pipe that burst during the night until Thursday has been repaired. Between 30,000 and 40,000 households and businesses were affected by the leak, which left large parts of the municipalities of Nyköping and Oxelösund completely without water.
A leak can lead to the presence of bacteria, viruses or parasites in the water.
