Böhmermann uses MontanaBlack as a figurehead for social problems

The satirist Jan Böhmermann (ZDF Magazin Royal) has once again dealt with the German Twitch streamer MontanaBlack. In his broadcast on Friday, May 17, Böhmermann addressed the topic of disposable vapes and used MontanaBlack as an example of someone who says: “I smoke vapes, I don’t let anyone tell me anything.”

How is Böhmermann using the streamer this time? In the introduction to the topic “Smoking for the barrel. Disposable Vapes” (via YouTube), Böhmermann shows a TikTok clip from MontanaBlack. The Twitch streamer said:

“Of course I vape on the train, Digga. You don’t seriously believe that I’m being banned from vaping there, Digga. And I sat there alone and of course I don’t vape and blow everything all over it, but I do pull on my vape, Digga, and then blow a little on the floor.

Böhmermann imitated “vaping downwards” and said: “Yes, completely normal, Digga. Disposable vapes just taste good, Digga. Monte thinks it’s good. “Hafti thinks it’s good.”

MontanaBlack is already having difficulties with Deutsche Bahn when it comes to regulations.

Böhmermann addresses disposable vapes and the problem

What was the post about? The post discussed disposable vapes. The ZDF magazine Royale particularly criticized the environmental problems of the disposable product:

  • The vapes contain lithium batteries that could actually be recharged, but are permanently installed in the product and end up in the trash
  • Lithium is an important material for the future, especially for electric cars, and is being wasted here
  • There was also criticism that vapes create a lot of electronic waste
  • Vapes were presented as a lifestyle product that was promoted by German rappers, with the product making a lot of money while the disadvantages were kept quiet.

Among other things, it was criticized that the vapes as “cotton candy nicotine” are more attractive to young people than cigarettes that are marked with warnings.

MontanaBlack as an example of irresponsible behavior

What does Böhmermann have with MontanaBlack? The satirist Böhmermann pushed MontanaBlack into the right corner during a podcast in 2020, for which he was heavily criticized. MontanaBlack defended himself against this accusation and particularly criticized the fact that his entire community was being condemned across the board.

In 2022, Böhmermann dealt with statements from the streamer in connection with criticism of loot boxes, especially in the FIFA series. Böhmermann criticized Twitch streamers for still advertising the loot boxes, even though they replicate gambling mechanics and are therefore addictive.

For a satire format, Böhmermann also repeatedly slips into the role of MontanaBlack and reacts in his version of a reaction streamer to ZDF formats such as Bares for Rares.

It is striking that Böhmermann repeatedly uses the Twitch streamer MontanaBlack as an example of people who do not take responsibility for their actions. Its influence on young people in particular is discussed again and again.

In 2022, MontanaBlack commented on Böhmermann’s criticism of Twitch streamers in the area of “loot boxes”. Back then, he refused to take responsibility for what his fans do and don’t do: MontanaBlack on criticism of Twitch streamers by ZDF Magazin Royale: “Everyone is responsible for themselves”
