BofA: $32 billion inflows to ESG bond funds in 2023

ESMA will initiate supervisory action on MiFID II sustainability requirements

(Finance) – Nel 2023 they registered $32 billion inflows into ESG bond funds globallywith an increase of 53% compared to 2022. This can be read in an analysis by Bank of Americawhere it emerges that 8% of total bond inflows in 2023 went to ESG bond funds, while non-ESG bond flows saw a strong recovery compared to 2022 outflows.

Cumulative inflows into ESG bond funds reached $264 billion, up 14% year to date. In December 2023, theAUM of global ESG bond funds totals $641 billion, up $151 billion year-over-year.

At the end of October i ESG bond funds now represent 12.6% of all bond fundsup from 10.6% by the end of 2022, with 276 new ESG funds in 2023.

The ESG bond funds ofWestern Europe they saw an inflow of $15.6 billion in 2023, compared to $46.5 billion in non-ESG inflows (after outflows of $52.9 billion in 2022). European ESG inflows accounted for the 25% of total bond fund inflows in 2023. Cumulative inflows into ESG bond funds in Western Europe reached $119 billion, up $16 billion year-to-date.

L’Western European ESG Bond AUM stands at $350 billion by the end of 2023, surpassing the previous peak of $292 billion reached in December 2021. ESG funds represent 21% of all bond funds, and the number of funds increased by 111 in 2023.
