It was on January 5 that a door plug came loose and a large hole was torn in the wall of the passenger cabin on an Alaska Airlines plane bound for Ontario.
The Boeing plane was then 5,000 meters in the air and forced to make an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, shortly after taking off from the airport. No one was injured in the incident.
Since then, the aviation authorities in both the US and Europe have imposed a flight stop for the Boeing 737 Max 9 model and demanded that all planes be checked.
In a press release on Wednesday, the FAA writes that it has now approved an extensive inspection and maintenance process that must be carried out on the 171 planes of the same model worldwide.
After a successful inspection, the aircraft will be eligible to return to service.
