It is not known how he ended up there, but the 90-kilogram baby walrus was found by oil workers in Alaska who saw a walrus track in the tundra near the highway.
Walrus calves are normally dependent on their mothers for their first two years. In order for the calf to survive, he was flown over 100 miles to the marine center in southern Alaska on August 1. There it was discovered that the calf was dehydrated, probably because he was carrying an infection.
Now the staff at the marine center look for the walrus around the clock.
