Bodö/Glimt has been the Norwegian football league’s most successful team on the men’s side in recent years, winning the league gold three out of the last four years.
They also lead the league with six rounds remaining, while the team plays in the Europa League, where they will face the English giants Manchester United, among other things.
Now the Norwegian club has also decided to raise the Sami flag at its home arena Aspmyra stadium, reports NRK Sápmi.
The Sami flag will fly in the arena during every home game in the Norwegian league where the decision comes after several episodes of hatred against the Sami which have created a need for clear measures, according to the club.
The flag will be raised as a symbol of dissociation from discrimination and to show respect for Sami culture.
Birgitte Andersen, who has been a strong advocate for making Sami culture visible, is satisfied that the Sami are highlighted in more public spaces such as the arena.
– It is important that the Sami are visible, she says NordSalten Avis.
