Bodiil Nordquist, 61, and her son got a real shock on Monday morning.
In the middle of the forest in northern Värmland stood a camel.
– I asked my son if he also sees what I see, he answered yes, she says.
It was on Monday morning that Bodiil Nordquist and her son were on their way home to pick up their two cats. When they turned onto a dirt road leading up to the house, they saw four sheep and something else blocking the road.
At first they couldn’t identify what it was.
– But in the end we figured out: well, it’s a camel, says Bodiil Nordquist.
Didn’t dare get out of the car
She knew that a camel had recently moved into the area.
– It has been on the run before, but then people thought it was a moose. Which you can believe.
Nordquist and her son stopped the car and started to take pictures – but neither of them dared to get out of the car.
– I know things about chickens, pigs, sheep, cows and horses. I have never seen a camel more than at the zoo.
– I contacted the owner but did not get a reply. When we went back, the owner was standing on the camel with a halter handle, she continues.
“It’s the most surprising thing I’ve seen”
It is not the first time that unexpected animals have appeared in northern Värmland.
– Last week, a neighboring village had a visit from two or three reindeer and it’s not really what you usually see here either.
Nordquist says that because she lives in the middle of the forest, she is used to seeing lots of animals.
– But not a camel. It’s the most surprising thing I’ve seen.
– When we left there, we saw a moose a little further away, it felt good.
