Boat and vehicle drivers facing impaired charges

A vessel operator and a motor vehicle driver are both facing impaired driving charges following separate investigations.

At about 9:20 pm on Saturday, Norfolk OPP marine officers conducted a vessel stop and investigation in the Inner Bay area on Lake Erie in Norfolk County.

A 36-year-old from Brant County was arrested and charged with operation while impaired — alcohol and drugs; failing to exhibit masthead light forward on power-driven vessel underway; failing to exhibit sidelights on power-driven vessel underway; failing to exhibit stern light on power-driven vessel underway.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday.

At about 4:30 am on Sunday, a Norfolk OPP officer noticed a speeding vehicle on Highway 24 Townsend.

Police charged a 27-year-old Brantford driver with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus); novice driver – BAC above zero; and speeding 1-49 km/h over posted limit.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Tuesday.
