Blur finished in front of large audiences

Fact: Blur

Blur was founded in 1988 in London, and consists of singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon, bassist Alex James and drummer Dave Rowntree.

In 1991 they released their first album “Leisure”. They have since released the albums “Modern life is rubbish”, “Parklife”, “The great escape”, “Blur”, “13”, “Think thank”, and “The magic whip”.

2023 saw the group’s latest full-length, “The ballad of Darren”, which has been praised by critics.

The 35-year-old Britpop group Blur attracted the biggest crowd of the festival day in front of the Flamingo stage. The group started the performance already a few minutes before the set time, in front of the audience which – despite the number – initially remained relatively calm.

But when hits such as ‘Beetlebum’, ‘Coffee & tv’, ‘Country house’ and ‘Parklife’ were played, the masses began to get into full swing with dancing and sing-alongs of all ages.

— Sweden was the first place we played outside Great Britain, it was really a different time. I love the Norwegians too, but…, shouted singer Damon Albarn – who together with his band members played in the neighboring country the night before.

When they performed the song “Girls & boys”, Albarn occasionally stumbled over the words in the chorus – but the audience seemed to be in ecstasy and the singer once again took the opportunity to pay tribute to the Swedes:

— You are one of the best audiences we’ve had during this tour, he said, and also put on a display of his Swedish skills:

— Location Gothenburg? Bowl!

Blur created sing-alongs on Way Out West.

Perhaps not entirely unexpectedly, the most pressure arose when the group performed their biggest song, “Song 2” from 1997 – even there with the audience as a supporting chorus.

Earlier this summer, Blur released their first album in eight years, The Ballad of Darren, to critical acclaim. During the concert, fans could hear the songs “The narcissist” and “Barbaric” from the new record.

The whole concert ended, after they thanked each other, with Albarn shouting with his fist in the air:

— Swedish, Swedish, Swedish!

Blur attracted a large crowd during Friday’s gig at Way Out West.
