[Mis à jour le 5 avril 2023 à 14h37] The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan is the cinema event of this Wednesday, April 5, 2023. The first part of the diptych dedicated to the work ofAlexandre Dumas came first in the 9 a.m. session at Châtelet les Halles, an indicator that is particularly scrutinized by distributors and professionals in the sector. We will have to wait a bit before knowing the result of the film at the box office, but remember that this feature film directed by Martin Bourboulon (eiffel) was eagerly awaited by both the public and the spectators. Indeed, it is a large-scale French blockbuster the likes of which are rarely done (estimated budget of around 72 million euros for both parts) a great show, with a very media-heavy cast, which hopes to attract spectators in theaters and which could generate a new dynamic in French production.

In this first part of Three Musketeers, we follow the young D’Artagnan, ready to do anything to join the body of the King’s Musketeers and the band of Athos, Porthos and Aramis. He finds himself having to thwart the plot of the Cardinal Richelieu and the mysterious Milady de Winter in an intrigue well known to readers, that of the queen’s studs. The second part, The Three Musketeers: Milady comes out on December 13. For its part, the French press is seduced by this proposal, since the first part in theaters this Wednesday receives a score of 3.8/5 at Allociné, out of 24 press titles listed.

The first opinions of the press were shared before the release of the Three Musketeers: d’Artagnan. Specialized critics seem quite seduced by Martin Bourboulon’s proposal. For franceinfoit’s a “feisty return to cinema of a classic with a five-star cast”, when First salutes “a successful bet”. For CNewsit is a “big show”, when RTL believes that “visually and narratively, the result is stunning”. This is one of the films to see according to The worldWhen BFM-TV sees it as a “modern cloak and dagger film with a western look”.

The Three Musketeers: d’Artagnan is the first part of the diptych directed by Martin Bourboulon. The work of Alexandre Dumas being particularly dense, it was chosen to adapt it in two films. But let the spectators be reassured, The three Musketeers: Milady only comes out a few months after the first, and was even shot at the same time. It will be possible to see this part 2 at the cinema on December 13, 2023.

If successful, the diptych of Three Musketeers could be entitled to two sequels in the form of films. These would be adaptations of twenty years later and Viscount of Bragelonne, two novels by Alexandre Dumas which follows the descendants of the children of the Musketeers, and which addresses the question of the man in the iron mask. For the time being, we do not know if these films are in the works or their possible release dates.

Two series derived from Three Musketeers are also being considered for broadcast on Disney+. One would be called Milady Origins and would return to the past of the character played by Eva Green. The second, Black Musketeer, will return to the character of Hannibal, the first black musketeer. On Allociné, a character named Hannibal is indicated in the casting of Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan And Milady, with Ralph Amoussou who interprets it.
