The rocket’s capsule contained research equipment, but it made it back to Earth intact, according to Blue Origin. The company shows in a video how the capsule’s emergency rockets are triggered about a minute after takeoff from the base in West Texas.
“The capsule landed safely and the launcher touched down within the predetermined risk area. No injuries or destruction of public property have been reported,” according to the US aviation authority FAA.
It was the 23rd expedition in The New Shepard rocket program and the first to fail. The accident occurred at an altitude of 8,500 meters.
