Blue Bloods idea for Tom Selleck’s Frank was so “ridiculous” the star immediately shot it down

Blue Bloods idea for Tom Sellecks Frank was so ridiculous

The very last episode of Blue Bloods – Crime Scene New York will be broadcast in the USA this Friday, December 13, 2024. Fans don’t want to believe this any more than the stars of the series themselves. Frank Reagan actor Tom Selleck in particular has repeatedly fought for a further extension in the recent past.

Now another longer interview with Selleck and Blue Bloods co-star Donnie Wahlberg has been published. Among other things, it contains one early idea for Frank revealed, which the actor strictly rejected.

Tom Selleck spoke out against Blue Bloods idea with green screen

In the Variety interview about the end of the series, Wahlberg says that early on, an idea was planned for Selleck’s character that he himself found absurd:

After the show started, it could have gone in several directions and Tom was like, ‘Listen. It’s about family first.’ They had this big stage set with a computer and Tom should stand in front of the computer and rule over New York. And he was like, ‘This is ridiculous!’

For these scenes, Selleck was supposed to stand in front of a green screen in each episode to give instructions and direct operations via a screen. The star immediately spoke out against this idea because he felt that these moments were too unrealistic for Frank. The idea was apparently quickly discarded.

When is the Blue Bloods series finale in Germany?

The 14th season of the crime hit is starting in this country on January 2, 2025 on Sky One. The final season consists of 18 episodes. After that, the series will probably end for good.
