As a precaution, it is preferable to fast for a blood test, provided that the sample is taken early in the morning. However, few examinations require absolute fasting from the night before.

How to be fasting?

To be really with an empty stomach, you must have had no food for 10 to 12 hours. Indeed, some assays are distorted when this condition is not met. So, the night before the exam, have a light dinner and refrain from snacking before bedtime.

Why do you have to be fasting?

Why is it so important to observe this short fast? duration ? During the digestion, the circulating blood will temporarily take on different micronutrients derived from digestion of food : proteins, but especially carbohydrates and lipids (fats). The presence of chylomicrons (suspended fat cells) then gives the blood a milky appearance that can interfere with certain assay techniques.
