    By signing a partnership, the French Blood Establishment (EFS) and the French Rugby Federation (FFR) wish to promote blood donation through sport.

    As the Rugby World Cup approaches, the French Blood Establishment and the French Rugby Federation have just signed an agreement to raise public awareness of the importance of blood donation. Several events combining both rugby and blood donation are planned.

    10,000 donations needed per day

    This type of partnership is essential to promote blood donation, because the EFS constantly needs new donors. Indeed, 10,000 daily blood donations are needed to meet patient needs.

    By joining forces with the world of high-level sport, through the French Rugby Federation, the EFS sees this as a good way to promote this generous act of blood donation.

    Donation campaigns on different sites

    The FFR also intends to offer the EFS to host blood drives at its various sites, throughout France, as well as in the most legendary places in rugby. “The world of rugby shares the same values as those of the EFS, which we are happy to honor today. Commitment, generosity and solidarity rhyme with both sport and blood donation, so why not combine them!” explains François Toujas, president of the EFS.

    An association that is not new. “Several partnerships have already emerged in this area, either on the initiative of sports clubs or federations, or that of regional establishments, blood donation volunteers, sports associations or even major sports brands that share the same values” can we read in the press release of the EFS.

    Can you play sports and donate blood?

    From a health point of view, this is the question that athletes of all levels can ask themselves. According to the EFS, it is quite possible to donate blood. You just have to remember to hydrate well before and after your donation. And think about two important things:

    • You have to choose a moment when you feel fit;
    • Important physical activities or those that could expose you to a fall or danger should be avoided the day after your donation.
