Migrants trying to cross from Morocco to the Spanish city of Melilla in North Africa were intervened. It was stated that the number of people who lost their lives as a result of the harsh intervention of the Moroccan police increased to 37. While there was no official statement about the number of deaths yet, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez thanked the Moroccan police for the immigrants killed while trying to enter the city of Melilla.
THEY TRIED TO CROSS TO SPAIN BY JUMPING THE BARRIERS
It has been reported that the number of people who lost their lives in the influx of immigrants and the events that followed in the city of Melilla, located in Spain’s North African territory and on the Moroccan border, increased. About 2 thousand immigrants, most of whom were stated to come from the Sub-Saharan Africa region, were faced with harsh intervention by the Moroccan security forces when they tried to cross the Spanish territory by jumping from the barriers on the border. The Moroccan Nador Human Rights Association, which has representatives in the border region, said in a statement today that the number of people who lost their lives reached 37, including 2 Moroccan security forces.
NO OFFICIAL STATEMENT HAS BEEN MADE YET ON THE NUMBER OF DEAD
No official statement has yet been made about the number of migrants who lost their lives. In the previous statement, it was reported that 18 immigrants lost their lives and 76 immigrants were injured. It was stated that the number of Moroccan security guards injured in the incident was 140, while 133 immigrants managed to cross the border.
