Ugandan Minister of State for Labor, Employment and Industrial Affairs, Charles Okello Engola, was shot dead by his bodyguard, attached to the Ugandan National Army. It was reported that the attack took place in Engola’s residence in the capital, Kampala, and it was announced that he committed suicide after the bodyguard killed Engola.
It is not yet known why the bodyguard shot Engola or if there was an argument between them. Eyewitnesses said that the bodyguard was walking around the street and shooting into the air before committing suicide. Local sources said that many people may have been injured in the incident.
“This morning, I received the sad news that Engola was shot by her bodyguard and then shot herself,” Ugandan Parliament Speaker Anita Between said in a statement.
