Ylva Johansson, the member of the European Union (EU) Commission responsible for internal affairs, gave a speech at the European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality at the session on the situation of Ukrainian women refugees.
Stating that 3 million 800 thousand Ukrainians have entered the EU territory so far, 1 million 200 thousand of them have been dispersed to other members other than neighboring countries, Johansson said that the number of those entering has decreased, and that only 35 thousand people came to the EU yesterday.
Johansson stated that Poland ranks first among the countries hosting the most Ukrainians in the EU, followed by Austria, Czechia, Estonia and Hungary.
Emphasizing that half of all refugees are children, Johansson emphasized that the first-term refugees are usually relatives or relatives who took them from the border, but those who came recently are more traumatized.

“My Ukrainian counterpart told me that women were systematically raped by Russian soldiers in front of their children,” Johansson said. said.
Therefore, considering the situation in Mariupol, Johansson said, “We should not push refugees to leave. We must accept them.” he said.
Stating that the EU will invite the USA, Canada and the UK to the Solidarity Platform established for the Ukraine crisis, Johansson stated that they will discuss increasing the number of refugees these countries want to host.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klichko, who attended the meeting via video conference, said that the Russian forces sounded sirens throughout the night in Kiev, big explosions were heard and the war continued.
Andriy Sadovyi, Mayor of Lviv city in western Ukraine, also noted that 145 children have lost their lives since the beginning of the war.
