Malmö was whipped to win when the series winners Brynäs came to visit Skåne for the third match in the quarterfinals series.
The first two struggles won Brynäs up in Gävle. But on Monday it was Redhawks turn to win.
Axel Sundberg gave the home team the lead after a delicious pat-game game in powerplay.
– If we had been in North America, we would have called it Tic, Tac, Toe. One of the finer goals we have seen in the playoffs, said expert Staffan Kronwall about Malmö’s 1-0 goal.
Malmö would also make the match’s second hit. Fredrik Händemark drove against the Brynäs box and Thomas Berg Paulsen intercepted a loose puck that he put there behind Ludvig Persson.
Blomgren played big
In match two, Oskar Blomgren got to jump in from the start in the Malmö box since both Marek Lagnhamer and Daniel Marmenlind were indisposable for games. Then there was a loss for the Redhawks.
In match three Blomgren stepped up and made a very stable effort. The 20-year-old accounted for a number of high-cars.
Blomgren stopped all 31 shots and kept its first zero for Malmö and the first SM play-play in his career
– Brynäs creates enough situations to get back in this match, but Blomgren wanted something else, says expert Kronwall.
Shocked in the interview
After the match, Blomgren received praise for his game with the club and gave an explanation that shocked TV4’s commentator Björn Oldeen.
– I have been playing outside players since childhood. I played my last match as an outside player with U16 sometime. I commuted between outside players and goalkeepers for a while, says Blomgren.
– huh? Is that true? How awesome, said an impressed Oldeen.
With Malmö’s victory, the match series has been reduced to 2-1.
