Since Season 4, players have been suffering from a lack of gold in Diablo 4. Blizzard stated that it wanted to address the problem and is making a first attempt with a patch. But that only solves a small part of it.
Season 4 in Diablo 4 started on May 14th and not only brought with it new content, but also the realization: Everything is somehow more expensive. No matter whether it’s about upgrading your healing potion, endgame crafting or improving your equipment.
MeinMMO editor and Diablo expert Benedict Grothaus is also poor as a church mouse.
On May 20th, Blizzard reported on But that doesn’t solve the core of the players’ gold problem.
Crafting chests cost less gold
How is Blizzard trying to solve the gold problem? On May 20, Global Community Development Director Adam Fletcher reached out to the community on X. There he writes that the team will soon release a patch that will reduce the gold cost for crafting chests.
Game director Joseph Piepiora shared the post on X and added:
As we continue to review the gold economy, there is one change we wanted to make immediately: the cost of converting Mats for Masterworking has now been drastically reduced.
Why isn’t the solution so easy? Although it is possible to convert materials for the new endgame crafting “Masterworking” (completion) for less gold, the rest remains just as expensive in Diablo 4. Once the mats have been converted, you still need hundreds of thousands to millions of gold to improve items with them.
Other features are also expensive. Depending on the level, improving the healing potion costs several million gold. If you try different builds and switch between items, you will also need a lot of gold to improve your equipment and enchant individual items.
What the developers will fundamentally change about the gold problem and when remains to be seen. On May 17, Adam Fletcher said on X that there were “internal discussions about gold and some other things going on.”
“Masterworking” is the new endgame crafting in Diablo 4. There are a total of 12 levels with which you can improve your items. “Tempering” is the second new form of crafting that you can use earlier because it is simply cheaper.
However, many players first run to the occultist when they find a powerful item. There they re-roll one of the stats or imprint a legendary affix so that the item fits into the build. But both cost a lot of gold. That’s why you should get used to a different order when crafting: Diablo 4: A stupid mistake can cost you many millions of gold – and a perfect item
