In early 2022, Blizzard announced a new IP out of nowhere, but without an exact name yet. They only revealed the genre: It should be a survival game. Now there is new information about the development.
What kind of game is this? Not much is known about the new game. In January 2022, Blizzard suddenly announced a new survival game with just a few words and a teaser image.
At that time it was said: You wanted to dare the “journey into a whole new universe”, so nothing to do with StarCraft, Warcraft or Overwatch. In addition, the game is a “place full of heroes”, so apparently an MMO or at least a multiplayer title. After all, Blizzard has expertise in it.
I’ve already completely picked the teaser and took a closer look at 5 details about the new survival game. Since then, however, the game has been quiet and there has been no new information, apart from Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra indicating that he has already played it. So it seems to be relatively far in development.
Now there is a new blog post from Ybarra at the end of 2022. There the boss gives an insight into the past year at Blizzard and reveals new details about the upcoming survival title.

Blizzard doubles the team, brings in the boss of Far Cry
This is now known: In the blog post, Ybarra explains that the development team behind the new survival game has doubled in size over the year. However, we do not know exactly how many developers are now working on the game.
In return, Ybarra reveals that Dan Hay has been hired as the game’s general manager. Among other things, Hay was involved as:
Hay also worked as a senior producer on Fear 3 and Fracture, among others. It’s hard to tell from this what Blizzard’s new game will be like in terms of gameplay, but maybe the title starts with an “F”.

When will the survival game come out? So far, we can only speculate when and where the new game will appear. With the new information, however, I strongly assume that the first playable version will be available in the form of an alpha, beta or early access by the end of 2023.
If Ybarra has been able to gamble, the team has now doubled in size and a new boss is working on the title, this seems to be working towards being finished soon. On the other hand, Diablo 4 2020 got a new boss and the release is now scheduled for June 6, 2023.
Still, it would be a pretty smart move to bring the new IP 2023 when WoW is a year into the new addon and you want to keep Blizzard fans happy with new options. However, 2023 will get a bunch of new survival games that Blizzard will then have to compete with. I’m eagerly awaiting.
