Blizzard punishes those who use Diablo 4 mods

Blizzard adopts a strict policy for Diablo 4, taking a tough stance against cheaters and third-party software users.

Blizzard warns players not to use any mods (even those for cosmetic purposes only) and states that it has a zero-tolerance policy towards third-party software.

Permanent ban threat to mod users in Diablo 4

TurboHUD, a massive mod in Diablo 3, now works in Diablo 4. However, before the players get excited right away, there is something we should point out. Blizzard made a statement about the mods. Blizzard clearly states that those using TurboHUD could face an indefinite ban. The Blizzard team states that it “constantly monitors” Diablo 4 for cheats and mods and wants to discourage players from installing them.

Blow to the Diablo 4 mod community

“We are committed to keeping the world of Sanctuary a safe and fair place for all players, and our Game Safety team is constantly monitoring for cheats and unauthorized changes,” says a warning posted on the Blizzard forums.

The article states that the terms and conditions accepted by all players “explicitly prohibit cheating, bots, cheats, and unauthorized software that automates, modifies or otherwise affects gameplay.”

TurboHUD4 was specifically mentioned by name and said, “It is prohibited to be used with Diablo 4. Game-changing software such as TurboHUD4 is prohibited to be used with Diablo 4”.

Blizzard’s strict stance and mod usage

This is an important constraint on the modding scene of a big game. Because the modding scene can keep a game going for years. The most famous example in this regard is Skyrim. It is played as a re-modded game on all platforms. Even games that have difficult beginnings can improve thanks to mod makers. Cyberpunk 2077 came to the fore with the addition of features that could not be added with official patches by mod makers.

But Diablo 4’s modding community probably won’t be that widespread due to the need to be online all the time. The average gamer seems to prefer to avoid third-party software when there is a risk of indefinite bans. However, it is unclear to what extent Blizzard has developed the technology necessary to detect modders.
