The “froggers” are in trouble in World of Warcraft. Something is being taken away from the exploiters – and everyone else is being rewarded.
A little over a week ago, “WoW Remix: Mists of Pandaria” launched, luring players with numerous rewards and the promise of almost infinite character progression. A few players found an exploit to both farm the necessary currency bronze and upgrade the artifact cloak to dizzying heights – within the first three days.
Although Blizzard has since fixed the exploit (and many others), the characters’ power remained – until now. Because now the developers are cracking down, taking power away from the cheaters and rewarding everyone else.
What happened? These exploiters were known as “froggers” or “frog farmers” because they took advantage of the hyperspawn of frogs that was possible on the Timeless Isle and allowed them to not only farm huge amounts of bronze, but also threads for the cloak and even “Lesser Pendants of Fortune” that could be exchanged for even more rewards.
The hyperspawn and high drops of these enemies was a clear exploit – because it was never intended for such massive amounts of loot to drop here.
What is Blizzard doing now? A hotfix will go live in the next few hours that will drastically nerf the Frog Farmer’s cape. The cape will then be set to a level that a “very dedicated player could realistically achieve” – so they will remain strong, but no stronger than other players who have invested the same amount of time (via forums.blizzard.com).
At the same time, there are new rewards for all fair players who have not taken advantage of this exploit.
What are the new rewards? Blizzard will be implementing 3 new quests during the course of tonight that you can get at the bazaar in the Jade Forest of Momentus. You can get the quests at levels 50, 60 and 70. They each grant a large amount of bronze, namely 3,000, 7,000 and 30,000 bronze.
Or in short: Every character at level 70 gets 40,000 bronze to use as they wish. Whether you use it to buy cosmetic rewards or improve your character further is up to you.
You can repeat the quests on secondary characters, so twinks also get the bonus of 40,000 bronze. If you need even more bronze, we have tips and tricks for farming bronze quickly.
By the way, the frog farmer characters are excluded from the reward. They cannot complete the new milestone quests and are left empty-handed.
What do you think about this kind of punishment and reward for everyone else? A good idea or not enough?
