Some players contest Diablo 4 as a magician and use different build options. However, a once-popular build has been nerfed enough to make it seem like it’s been erased for some players – at least in endgame.
The Hydra build, on the other hand, focuses on the ability to summon hydras that emerge from the ground and breathe fire. However, this build has been heavily nerfed, so it’s rarely played, especially in the endgame.

“The build has been deleted from the endgame”
What was nerfed? While there is still the ability to summon Hydras, they currently deal very little damage. Critics say (via Dot Esports) that the duration they support the magicians is too short to really do anything.
Many players noticed the DPS difference when they switched to much more powerful builds, such as a Blizzard build. According to Dot Esports, Wizard players want a strong Hydra build back just for a change.
According to a secret tweet from the boss, Wizards were even the most popular class in Diablo 4 in early June.
What are the players saying? On Reddit, the topic is addressed by the player “1990feels”, among others. There he writes that “a Hydra build is certainly fun to play. Oh wait, Blizzard nerfed him […] and deleted from the endgame.” (via Reddit).
“JarrodAHicks” writes that he really enjoyed the Hydra build during the Diablo 4 campaign (via Reddit). However, when he switched to a Frost build, he would have noticed the large DPS difference. Also, in world tier 3, he really struggled to build up enough damage with his hydras.
One of the last patches of Diablo 4 strengthened the wizard on offense. But that’s not enough for many players.
