Blizzard advises players in WoW not to jump anymore and is deadly serious – because jumping kills

In World of Warcraft Classic, a popular in-game movement mechanic called a “jump” caused a player to die from a disconnect and lose their character.

What happened to the player? Streamer and hardcore gamer Graysfordays got into a fight with his druid in World of Warcraft Classic. Actually nothing unusual.

But when he tries to dodge an attack by jumping, he is disconnected from the game.

The annoying thing about it: By playing in hardcore mode, he loses his character upon death. He can’t just respawn and take on the enemies again.

Blizzard advises: Just don’t jump anymore

What is the disconnect related to? Blizzard has confirmed that this is a known bug. If a player is hit by an attack that causes control effects while jumping, they will be disconnected from the game. Blizzard’s tip? Just stop jumping (via PCGamesN).

Graysfordays used the move to maximize his chance of survival. This was ultimately his undoing, as you can see in the clip:

“Requesting not to jump is like asking players not to breathe”

When can you jump again without falling? In the Blizzard forums, a developer thanks for the report and writes on June 30th: “We are aware of this problem and hope to fix it with our next update next week. In the meantime, we ask that you avoid jumping in combat as this is actually through […] control effects in the air. Thank you for the report and our condolences on the character’s death!” (via us.forums.blizzard.com)

Easier said than done. Spacebar jumping is instinctive for many players. Many of us hop around the map out of habit, maybe out of boredom, but also to dodge attacks.

On July 1st, a developer added in the thread: “I know buddy. Asking WoW players not to spam the jump button is like asking them not to breathe. Sorry for that, you’ll be able to use your spacebars again soon, I promise!”

Player has been playing WoW without a mouse for 17 years, reaches 40,000 hours of play, says: “It’s not that complicated”
