Blizzard accidentally puts WoW Classic players in the wrong version, now everyone has unfair buffs

The fresh anniversary servers in WoW Classic recently received their first battlefields with Warsong Gorge and Alterac Valley. When players signed up for it, a bug resulted in them gaining an unfair advantage.

What kind of bug was that? When players on the Anniversary servers logged in for the Alterac Valley battlefield, they were accidentally thrown in with players on the SoD servers. This left them in a completely different version of WoW Classic.

On the battlefield, players in the Anniversary Server were then able to purchase the useful item “Chrono Strengthener” (via wowhead.com) for just 20 silver, while the item in its actual version costs 10 gold. Some players promptly took advantage of this and bought tons of it (via Reddit).

With this item, players can save extremely powerful world buffs and use them at a later, convenient time. This approach is particularly popular with raiders because the buffs also work in raids and make things a lot easier.

An unfair advantage

Why is this a problem? The bug caused two problems: firstly, Anniversary players could get unfair world buffs from the SoD servers. There are items on the season servers that distribute certain world buffs to all players in the raid.

This allowed players on the Anniversary Servers to store the world buffs in their chrono boosters if they had someone from an SoD server in the party using one of these items. This allowed raiders on the fresh servers to gain advantages in raids that weren’t supposed to exist yet (via Reddit).

On the other hand, the amplifiers are not soul-bound. This means that anyone who sells them for 20 silver can sell them again on the auction house with a large profit margin. Because the item actually costs 10 gold on the anniversary servers.

Players therefore fear that the items purchased in large numbers due to the bug on the anniversary servers would lead to disruptions in the economy (via Reddit). Some players were able to easily turn 20 silver into 5 gold.

Blizzard has now stepped in and removed the bug (via WoW forums). In the meantime, the battlegrounds on the Anniversary Servers have been temporarily shut down. The items purchased through the bug have also been disabled, meaning players can no longer use them.

The fresh Anniversary Servers are very popular. World first on the Harcore servers also plays a big role. For one Twitch streamer, however, his attempt ended particularly bitterly, albeit with a nice twist: Twitch streamer loses due to Disconnect World First in WoW Hardcore Classic Fresh, and he even minmaxed the marriage proposal
