US Secretary of State Antony Blinken expresses hopes of being able to resolve the differences of opinion regarding Taiwan with China.
He would not comment on Speaker and Democrat Nancy Pelosi’s planned trip to the island, but highlighted President Joe Biden’s message to Chinese leader Xi Jinping that the United States opposes unilateral attempts to change the status quo.
– We have many differences of opinion regarding Taiwan, but over the past 40 years or so we have managed to resolve those differences and have done so in a way that has preserved peace and stability and allowed the Taiwanese people to thrive, he said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, China plans to hold a military exercise in the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, state media said. The exercises will be limited in scope and will take place mainly on Pingtan Island in Fujian Province.
