A 22-year-old Blenheim man is facing several charges after Chatham-Kent police found him with a .22 caliber rifle during a traffic stop on Friday.
Police said officers were conducting an investigation in Blenheim when the accused, who was the subject of the investigation, was seen in the passenger seat of a vehicle.
The accused was found with the rifle he did not have a license for after the vehicle was stopped, police said.
This resulted in the accused being arrested on charges related to illegally possessing a weapon along with theft of a credit card, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000 and failing to comply with probation.
He was held for bail, police said.
Impaired by drug charge
A male driver involved in a three-vehicle collision on Friday was found to be impaired by a drug, reports Chatham-Kent police.
Emergency crews were called to a three-vehicle crash on Dufferin Avenue in Wallaceburg where the accused, determined to be the at-fault driver, was found to have a suspended driver’s licence, police said.
The accused was also suspected of being impaired, resulting in a standard field sobriety test being performed, police said.
The driver was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug. He was taken to police headquarters where a drug recognition expert also determined the accused was impaired by drug, police said.
The accused was charged for driving offences, had his license suspended for 90 days, his vehicle impounded for seven days and he received a court date for his criminal charges, police said.
