And it’s a trend that we thought had been forgotten forever that brings the nineties up to date: discolored eyebrows. Celebrities, influencers, and other social media users adore it, to the point of risking a skin reaction – and even worse.

From the catwalks to the streets, there is often only one step – although social networks now overshadow the most renowned designers. Still, with the exception of a few incursions on TikTok, it was indeed in the middle of Fashion Week that bleached eyebrows made their first appearance, albeit discreet, in 2022. In February, when most of the big houses multiply the odes to the 2000s, Versace stands out by offering a beauty treatment straight out of the previous decade. On the Milan catwalk, half of the models, including Gigi Hadid, parade without eyebrows, or rather exactly with barely visible blond eyebrows. A strange impression emerges from the show. Of course, it will never take…

‘Bleached brows’: a holdover from the 90s

Three months later, it’s time for the most coveted red carpet in the fashion world: the Met Gala. Revamped in Marilyn Monroe, Kim Kardashian bleached her hair blonde. Nothing illogical. But her sister Kendall Jenner is proving more daring in the makeover, showing off with completely bleached eyebrows. A look that does not go unnoticed, and will convince many others to adopt what is becoming an essential make-up trend. Bella Hadid, Kim Kardashian, Maisie Williams, Kylie Jenner, Lena Situations, Lady Gaga, and others… All – or almost – have chosen to experiment with the trend, for an evening or a few days, never much more a long time.

It was enough for the trend to go viral, and take hold of social networks. On Instagram, the hashtag #bleachedbrows (discolored eyebrows in French) is at the origin of nearly 40,000 publications, but it is – as often – on TikTok that the phenomenon has spread like wildfire. The same terms have already generated more than 200 million views worldwide, and the trend does not seem to be weakening, quite the contrary. Some videos featuring users in the process of bleaching their eyebrows now reach several million views, testifying to a certain enthusiasm for a phenomenon that is not without risk.

    Make-up rather than discoloration

Whoever has discolored the down in the lower back – yes, it was also done in the 2000s – will know that discoloration can present potential risks that should not be taken lightly. Cosmetics intended to lighten the eyebrows often contain chemicals, such as hydrogen peroxide, which can cause allergies or other skin reactions, and can damage hair and skin. Without forgetting that this is a discoloration near the eye, which therefore requires a certain dexterity. To avoid taking an inconsiderate risk, it is better to leave it to informed professionals to carry out this beauty gesture, or turn to make-up. A good alternative.

On TikTok, some users have already opted for this solution, betting a fortiori on an ephemeral discoloration, without risk of regretting a too hasty gesture. In most cases, this involves using a concealer or concealer and spreading it over the eyebrows using a mascara or eyebrow applicator. In a few seconds, the trick is done, here they are ready to parade on the red carpet like Kendall Jenner and Kim K.
