A Friday afternoon house fire caused $50,000 in damage, but there were fortunately no injuries, fire officials say.
At 1:45 pm, crews responded to 29 Jeffrey St. in Chatham for a call at a two-storey, multi-unit dwelling.

When firefighters from Stations 1 and 2 arrived, smoke and flames were visible from the upper unit.
“Crews entered the unit and made a quick attack on the fire in the upper unit kitchen,” officials stated in a release. “The fire was quickly extinguished. Crews remained on scene to ventilate the building, as well as to do salvage and overhaul operations.”
The cause was ruled accidental.
