Emil Salomonsson was forced off after just seven minutes. After a melee, the veteran fell over and seriously injured his shoulder. After receiving medical attention, Salomonsson was forced into a substitution.
Otherwise, the first half was quite weak – from both teams. The hot scoring chances were conspicuous by their absence and the first 45 minutes ended goalless.
But in the second half there was momentum.
Elias Hagen had the home team’s hottest chance, but Noel Törnqvist in the Mjällby goal made a great save.
Then the zero was cracked.
After a free kick, when the ball was still in the air, Adam Ståhl struck with a bicycle kick, 1–0 Mjällby.
IFK Gothenburg, most recently a heavy 1-4 loss in the derby against the Swedish champion team Häcken, tried to get a couple of half-chances.
But trying is hardly enough.
Mjällby won the match 1–0 and “Blåvitt” now park in a qualifying spot. The crisis deepens.
