They both won best actor awards when the National Society of Film Critics announced its winners on Saturday, Blanchett for “Tár” and Farrell for “The banshees of Inisherin” and “After Yang.”
The awards were no surprise, both have been praised since the films premiered at the Venice Film Festival last fall, where both were named Best Actor. Since then, they have received several awards and on Wednesday night can win the Golden Globes for their performance. They are also favorites to win at the Oscars later this spring.
“Tár” was also named best film on Saturday, while the award for best director went to Charlotte Wells for the British “Aftersun”. Swedish-Dutch Hoyte van Hoytema came second in the voting for best photo, for “Nope”.
“Tár”, “The banshees of Inisherin” and “Aftersun” will all have their Swedish premiere in the spring.
