The day of Saturday August 5 promises to be the worst day of the summer on the roads of France, in particular on the motorways and seaside roads. By consulting the details of the Bison Futé forecasts, we obtain valuable clues on the timetables absolutely to be avoided.

If you’re planning on hitting the road this Saturday, it’s best to hit the mark, both in terms of timing and the routes taken. Bison Futé is not going too far when presenting its forecast for Saturday August 5: it will quite simply be the worst day of the summer on the roads, with black in the direction of departures and orange in the sense of feedback.

As you will have understood, many French people have opted for this weekend when starting or continuing their holidays and the roads to the seaside will be particularly busy. By looking at the details of Bison Futé’s forecasts, we get some clues to keep in mind when planning your departure. We have compiled and selected them for you below:

  • If you are in Ile de France or crossing the region, it is advisable to leave it before 6 am. Or to postpone your departure from 1 p.m.
  • Among the busiest motorways, we find the A7 with a sector between Lyon and Orange to be avoided for a large part of the day, from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.!
  • Same thing for the A9 between Montpellier and Narbonne from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • For the A10, it is the sector between Orléans and Bordeaux which will be the busiest, from 7 a.m. and until 7 p.m. this Saturday.
  • Heavy traffic on the A20 between Limoges and Brive-la-Gaillarde. Try to get there before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m.
  • On the A43 between Lyon and Chambéry, only one time slot to absolutely avoid: from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • On the A61 between Toulouse and Narbonne, same thing but from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • On the A71, near Clermont-Ferrand, the time slot to avoid will be earlier: from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Finally, avoid the A75 motorway, between Clermont-Ferrand and Montpellier, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

It is therefore difficult to avoid any traffic jams this weekend, especially if you are heading south. There are alternative routes. Bison Futé sees only two particularly busy national roads this Saturday: the N165 between Nantes and Quimper from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and the N205 towards the Mont-Blanc Tunnel with saturated traffic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The other option, rarely possible for those who rent accommodation, is to postpone their departure. Sunday will be much calmer with orange in the direction of departures and green in the direction of returns.
