This is Angela Bassett, who plays Wakanda’s ruler Ramonda in the film. Bassett beat out Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) and Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) for best supporting actress.
Black Panther triumphs where the MCU has failed so far. After all, the Marvel screen universe itself is no stranger to big awards. A number of films have already been nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes, and some have also taken home awards in the past. But never for an acting performance.
